What’s In Season at The Crown?

Our menu is ever-evolving to reflect the changing seasons. The Nedging Hall kitchen gardens provide us with fresh produce all year round, so here’s a little update on what’s being harvested this season...

Asparagus season is now coming to an end.... For now, you’ll still find them featured alongside our roasted spring chicken leg skewer with sunflower seed sauce.

As some vegetables reach the end of their season, plenty more are just beginning to make their way to the kitchen! You may have noticed a few dishes now featuring broad beans, which are coming into their own. Broad beans have been a staple since medieval times, making them one of the oldest cultivated vegetables. They pair beautifully with pecorino cheese and pickled walnuts in our risotto dish, and they also complete our grilled and crispy plaice, perfectly complemented by pickled apple.

Stone fruits are also coming back into season, and we’re currently harvesting fresh apricots and plums. These versatile fruits lend themselves to both sweet and savoury dishes, so keep an eye out for what Greig might be planning with them…

And of course, we can’t forget a few seasonal favourites: strawberries, raspberries, and gooseberries! These will be making their way onto your desserts, offering that irresistible sweet flavour we all look forward to at this time of year.
